Challenge #180 - Sun

Thanks for joining us for another great summer Challenge - Sun!

As we all know, "challenges" inspire us to create.  When DT Member, Karen Letchworth saw this week's "Sun Challenge" theme, it inspired her in an unexpected way.  She immediately thought about the color "sunshine yellow", and she wanted to create something bright and fun.  Since Karen loves spending time (especially in the Summer) journalling and writing, she decided to make a fun Summer Journal based on this theme, and using the "sunshine yellow" to inspire her.  She grabbed an adorable Natural Smooth Journal (this is the larger of the two sizes available, and both journals to make writing/journalling easy).  Journals make a WONDERFUL gift idea for young girls - all the way up to grandmothers.  Karen embellished her journal with all sorts of Kraft Outlet "krafty" goodies including some Natural Hemp Cord and Brown Kraft Coverweight Cardstock.
Karen also decorated the inside cover of the journal using one of the Kraft Outlet's darling little White Library Card and Library Card Pocket.  They're just SO sweet, and they make journaling fun - the more pockets and places for journaling.....the better!   We're sure you know someone who would just LOVE to receive a new journal, and YOU can pick one up this week at The Kraft Outlet and decorate it especially for someone special.  We'd LOVE to have you play along in this week's "Sun Challenge", and we look forward to seeing how YOU interpret the theme in your own unique way.  If your interpretation of the challenge is different (like Karen's), just share with us how you were inspired by the challenge.  You can see more photos of this project on Karen's Blog, My Cup Runneth Over.

Tammy Hobbs
Tammy created a simple summer scene for this week's Sun challenge. She began with a card base made from Brown Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock. She cut a piece of blue patterned paper and adhered it to the base.  Using her electronic cutting machine, she then created a beach scene from various cutting files. The base of the "Island" is also made from Brown Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock.  For additional pictures and a complete supply list, please visit Tammy at Creating Somewhere Under The Sun.

Anitra Tovar

Anitra loves sun shining days!  For her card she used Blackboard Stock Paper as her base.  She then added a dusty blue patterned paper.  Next she matted the floral patterned paper with more of the Blackboard Stock Paper, to which she tied a multi-looped bow using Oatmeal Cream bias tape along with some Yellow Baker's Twine.  For her sentiment she used a sun themed stamped and stamped onto white cardstock again matting it with the Blackboard Stock Paper.  To create the fun sun embellishment, Anitra used a Silver Bottle Cap that she painted in a yellow acrylic paint.  These bottle caps can be used in all sorts of projects!  Next she added adhesive and rolled more of the Yellow Baker's Twine onto the bottle cap.   She adhered the finished bottle cap to a yellow piece of cardstock that was cut using a pinked circle die.  For added embellishments Anitra punched some darling butterflies from the Lunch Bag Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock.  For more information on Anitra's card please visit her blog Stamping While They Sleep.

Kristi Schurr
For this week's Sunshine challenge, Kristi made a fun sunburst card. She started her card with a Blank Brown Kraft Note Card. She die cut several pieces of patterned paper into triangles and adhered them in a sunburst pattern, trimming the edges of the paper along the top and sides of the card base as needed. She die cut two circles for the sun center and attached a sun shaped sequin to the middle with a brad. She then adhered a scalloped trim to the middle of the card and wrapped a piece of Mint Green Tea Seam Binding around it, tying it in a bow on the left side. She added another bow made from some yellow twine from the Pastel Hemp Cording Pack . She then added a tiny clothespin to the bows. The sentiment was stamped on the bottom right corner in brown ink. for more information, please visit Kristi at Kristi's Paper Creations.

WOW, after all this inspiration who wouldn't want to join our challenge? Come on you know you want to.
