Challenge #176 - Shabby Chic

Welcome to another Challenge here at the Kraft Journal!

This weeks inspiration is Shabby Chic, but what exactly is shabby chic? Wikibedia describes it as a form of design where elements are either chosen for their appearance of age and signs of wear and tear or where new items are distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique. At the same time, a soft, opulent, yet cottage-style design.

I love this style and I think your design team has captured the colors, style and feel exactly.
Kristi Schurr
Shabby chic is one of Kristi's favorite styles! Her floral card began with a 5.5 by 5.5 inch base made from Buff Ivory Cover Weight Card Stock. She layered squares of various patterned papers that she also distressed the edges and machine stitched around the perimeter. After placing the focal image in the center of the card, Kristi added a self adhesive lace frame around it. She fashioned two bows made from Hand Stained Bias Tape in Rose Beige and placed one on opposite corners of the lace focal frame. She added a resin bird embellishment to the lower right corner of the frame as well. She stamped the sentiment onto a die cut label and adhered it to the front. Kristi finished her card by embellishing it with various flowers and pearls. For more information, please visit Kristi at her blog, Kristi's Paper Creations.

Karen Letchworth
DT Member, Karen got really excited when she learned that this week's challenge is all about Shabby Chic!  This is such a fun challenge, and the Kraft Outlet has ALL the right supplies to help make your shabby chic, or any other style, card and projects you wish to create an absolute BREEZE!  Karen simply grabbed a piece of Half-Sized Blackboard Stock Paper and, when folded in half, this becomes a perfect sized card for any of our small mailing envelopes.  This fun blackboard paper is SO on-trend right now, and is SUPER fun to create with.  Karen simply added a few goodies including a Hodge Podge Magpie Sticker (home), a little button tied with old-fashioned Pink Baker's Twine, a little house sticker, and a seam binding bow made from Cameo Beige and Strawberry Shortcake Hand-Stained Bias Tape.

It's hard to see it in the first photo, but Karen also used a sweet little tab from the Hodge Podge Magpie Stickers that sticks out to the side (super cute how these little accents add something interesting and unexpected to the sides and edges of your projects).  It also gives a place to add a date, etc.  What a great idea for mini albums and scrapbook pages, too!  Karen hopes you will stop by and play along in our Shabby Chic Challenge this week, and she'd also love to have you visit her blog, My Cup Runneth Over.

Tammy Hobbs
For today's shabby chic challenge, Tammy had no problem creating her card and using lots of wonderful products from The Kraft Outlet as this is her favorite card to create. She started with a Brown Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock onto which she added her patterned paper. Before the patterned paper was added she brushed a touch of cream paint to shabby the cardstock up a bit. Tammy added a Large Kraft Shipping tag to the center of the card adding more paint to it.  A length of Strawberry Shortcake Bias Tape was wrapped around the card front and tied in a bow securing a button with Pink Baker's Twine.  Next using Buff Ivory Cardstock, she layered a scalloped die-cut circle adding a coarse glitter to the outside edges for a decorative touch. Her next layer consisted of a corrugated cardboard heart she die-cut which she added more paint. Continuing on with more die-cuting now using Lunch Bag Kraft Text Weight Paper and a circle from Buff Ivory Cardstock.  All these layers make a beautiful foundation for her layered butterfly cut from Vintage Dictionary Pages.  Lastly, she stamped her sentiment onto a piece of Natural Twill Tape and fastened with a few small staples for a fun touch.   For additional pictures and a complete supply list, please visit Tammy at Creating Somewhere Under The Sun.

Anitra Tovar

Anitra is a big fan of the Shabby Chic style and has created this card using Buff Ivory cardstock.  This linen textured cardstock is perfect for the Shabby Chic Style.  Using it as her base she matted some patterned paper to the front of her card.  Of course seam binding was a must in this card so she choose Rose Petal Cupcake.  She paired the seam binding with some Natural Hemp Cord, a must in Anitra's collection of ribbons and fibers!  A bit of lace from her stash was also added.  Next Anitra stamped her sentiment on to some more of the Buff Ivory cardstock, and matted it with some light green cardstock.  Next she added one of the stickers from the Salvage Sticker pack Crowded Attic.  To finish her card she added a button from the Chip board buttons - Office pack, along with some coordinating green buttons.  For more information on this project please visit Anitra's blog:  Stamping While They Sleep.
